Following the Trump Administration’s announcement to set the refugee admission ceiling at 30,000, less than a third of the usual level, Cindy Rowe, Executive Director of JALSA Impact, made the following statement:
“I barely recognize our country these days. It wasn’t so long ago that we took great pride in proclaiming ourselves a nation founded by immigrants, all coming together, celebrating our diversity. This setting of the refugee admission ceiling at 30,000, less than a third of the usual level, is a disgrace. How many of us would not be in this country right now if immigration had been so restricted when our parents or grandparents were coming to this country? Shame on the President for forgetting what makes America great. We can only hope that Congress comes to its senses and rejects his offensive proposal.”
